Weekend Sweep

NANAIMO - It was a good weekend for the young Bedrock Intermediate A Timbermen; we managed a
sweep of both games. Saturday we played the South Fraser Stickmen (formerly Surrey) at home at Frank
Crane Arena. The game was a spirited one with the home side running up a 3-1 score in the first period.
The second was an entirely different story. SF outscored the young woodsmen 5-1 and took a 6-4 lead going
into the final frame. The coaching staff settled their young charges down and they went out in the third
period and outlasted the mainlanders 41 to get an 8-7 win. Leading the way for the T-Men was captain James
Brown with 2 goals and 2 assists, Connor Morgan with a goal and 3 helpers, Stu Mills, Coltin Borthwick,
Paul Brebber, Joe Fendick, and Nick Peeke-Vout with a cheeky little shovel shot goal to round out the
scoring for the T-Men. Matt Heibert and Logan Down split duties in goal for the win.
The road has not been kind to the Intermediate club this season; Sunday's roadie took the Bedrock
T-Men to Copeland Arena to face the Burnaby Lakers. The young men from Nanaimo had a bit of buss rust to
shake off but once they found their legs they started to take control of the game. The T-Men posted a
first period score of 2-1 and them let the Lakers back in the game with a couple of undisciplined
penalties and tied the second 3-3. The third was all Nanaimo taking control with stifling defence
and 3-1 on the score sheet the Bedrock Boys came away with a solid 9-5 win. Coltin Borthwick and James
Brown both having 6 point games, Borthwick with 3 and 3, and Jimmy Brown 1 and 5 assists. Other point
getters were Stu Mills 1 and 1, Connor Morgan with 1 and 3, Nick Peeke-Vout, Paul Brebber and Shane
Bryson all with one goal.

WOW! Good turnout and great work men at our first 2008 training session.
For all of the players that came to our first training session at Oliver Woods Gym, great to see
you there. The group was in good fitness overall and showed the coaching staff (coaches Kemp,
Dougan, Clark and fitness coach Vicki) great enthusiasm and had a hard working attitude. We will
continue the fitness portion of our camp for one more session at Oliver Woods before we move into
the NIC Arena on April 8th @ 6:00pm for full camp.
If there is a reason that you can't make the training sessions at the gym please
email us and let us know, otherwise we hope to see you all
there. If some of you that were unable to attend this weekend’s session had trouble finding the
gym, please email us and we will give you directions.
Thank you,
Bruce and Vicki Clark

All Interested Players,
The 2008 lacrosse season is fast approaching and the Nanaimo Intermediate “A” Timbermen coaching
staff would like to invite you to our team try-outs (please see the practice schedule page for
session dates, times and location).
It is expected that all participants will be in top shape and able to participate fully. Our
coaching staff has a different look this year. We welcome Jesse Kemp back as Co-Coach and Kyle
McInnis back as Assistant Coach; we would like to announce the additions of Brad Dougan and Mike
Morrison to the coaching staff. Brad and Mike bring an amazing amount of experience with them
from all levels or lacrosse.
Team management is very excited and looking forward to the 2008 season. Our goal this year is to
build on our achievements from last season. The Intermediate “A” Timbermen finished third overall
in the 2008 British Columbia Intermediate 'A' Lacrosse League last season.
We are members of the B.C. Intermediate 'A' Lacrosse League and will be playing in a nine team “A”
Division. Although the schedule has yet to be finalized, we will play our home games on Saturdays
in the Frank Crane Arena and away games on Sundays at Mainland venues. We will practice in the
Nanaimo Ice Centre on Tuesdays and Thursdays in April; followed by a move to the Frank Crane Arena
beginning in May.
Our record is impressive having qualified for Provincials twice in as many seasons. We missed the
League Championship by just 6 points last year, and we came up just short in the B.C. Championships.
It is our goal for the third time in a row, qualify for Provincials and to win the B.C.’s in 2008.
Everyone is invited to come out to training camp - meet the coaches, management and other players.
Please come out and help us achieve our goals. Take advantage of the free floor time and excellent
coaching - SEE YOU THERE !
As this is the first year of Senior lacrosse, you probably have some questions. Please do not
hesitate to email or call me.
Sincerely,
Bruce Clark
